-Selkirk Settlement formed earlier than OTL (in 1807), and is rather more successful because he is able to send more

-with Gaelic-speaking Presbyterian minister

-booms further, gets renewed immigrants over 1820s due to famine in Europe pushing Highland Scots out, Selkirk Settlement becomes a real town in this era

-following British Popular Revolution, Hudson's Bay Company loses monopoly, Selkirk grant turned into Colony of Assiniboia in 1834

-deeply tied to the United States because of St. Paul being there
